Riding the momentum of a victory that launched him into second place last Saturday night, Jeff Burton feels extremely at ease in his role as the hunter. Instead of having to lead and fend off all other racers, Burton would rather attack than defend. Now, only 69 points away from Johnson’s first place lead, Burton’s ready to hit the Martinsville Speedway for the TUMS QuikPak 500 and creep in towards first. Looks like Talladega Superspeedway can add another crash to its resume. With only 13 laps to go, a crash occurred when Carl Edwards’ car nudged Greg Biffle’s car. A tap at such top speeds caused a chain reaction in the race. Including Edwards and Biffle’s cars, 12 cars were wreck at Talladega Superspeedway. Edwards came off as the source of the accident and has since then apologized for this accident causing move. Edwards tried to take the lead, but ended up causing chaos.

NASCAR drivers are prepping for Talladega Superpeedway. No other racetrack in NASCAR gives drivers more butterflies than the dreaded Talladega Superpeedway. Talladega racetrack is 2.2 miles of bumper-to-bumper adrenaline pumping action not only for the drivers but also for the fans. Spins and crashes plague this Talladega Superpeedway. One slip up at the front and the whole race can be ruined. That is why Talladega Superpeedway can either make or break a driver’s season.

Guess who won the 2008 Chase for the Sprint Cup? Though many racing fans probably wanted to see Carl Edwards pass the finish line, it was Jimmie Johnson that took the lead and won. The minor hit ended up costing Edwards quite a bit, giving Johnson enough time to make his move. After hitting the wall, Edwards was not able to maintain his lead. Johnson, on the other hand, made the best out of Edwards’ mistake to get the Cup.

Greg Biffle may just be the first driver to win a title in all three nationwide series of NASCAR. Biffle’s success this year comes from not only his hard work at the wheel, but also from his hard working team. Every fan knows that drivers a just the tip of the iceberg, it is the crew and support staff that help make a winning team. Drivers are an extension of the team out on the racecourse. Without the support, Biffle and all other drivers, would be stranded and spinning their wheels in one place

The 2009 season of NASCAR will see some changes. And we’re not talking just oil changes either. NASCAR drivers, including their respective pit crews, will be subject to random drug tests in addition tot he mandatory preseason one. To keep drivers clean and safe, NASCAR will have the power to test any driver that is suspect of abusing controlled substances. This seems like a good idea considereing the nature of the sport (i.e driving at neck-breaking speeds with fans mere feet away).

I think I know why people flock to NASCAR racing events. I think. The all encompassing and obvious reason: to see a crash. With race cars traveling at top speeds of over 150 mph and only inches apart, I would think a chance for a crash is big. The drivers draft so close that there is no room for error. Then of course, NASCAR has the race cars! Pure built race machines that sound and look amazing. Gearhead or not, the race cars are quite remarkable machines that put a lot of fans in awe.

nascar-racing-10.jpgThe chase for the Sprint Cup is coming to a close as the Ford 400 starts back up in Homestead, Florida.  With all the exciting turns in this race for the championship, you wont know who will come in first until the last second! This year the Sprint Cup champion will be crowned on Sunday, November 16, 2008. That’s plenty of time to take off work and speed on down to the sunny Miami, Florida. Kyle Busch continued to dominate NASCAR after winning the O’Reilly 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway. This was his third Craftsman Truck Series win of the season and his 17th overall in 2008 in NASCAR’s top three series. The race had to be extended for 3 laps after a car spun off on the last lap. Busch No.1 Toyota struggled with restarts earlier in the race but the last restart was flawless. He also spoilt the party for Johnny Benson who was looking to become the first driver to win four consecutive truck races but ended up in fourth spot. Two time Sprint Race champion Jimmie Johnson had a disastrous race and could not finish the race.

Jeff Gordon who finished at the top of the standings last year, has had a terrible season so far. 29th place finish at Watkins Glen was a shocker for Gordon who has previously won 4 times at the same track. He is sixth in the points tally and 500 points behind the leader. Gordon’s team seems to have lost its magic that had once caught the eye of the racing community. The team had good testing sessions in the beginning of the season and was expecting to do well but their cars have just not been up to the scratch. Gordon and the team are feeling the heat as anxiousness rises and rumors are beginning to surface the market.
