Terry Blount on ESPN is completely on point this week.  Jimmie Johnson is going to win the Sprint Cup this year, unless something goes very wrong.  Blount says we shouldn’t be bored by racing just because of that. The Rose Bowl isn’t always a close game towards the end.  Instead, he tells us, we should simply enjoy the races.  I mean, they’re races!  Each one is its own drama and we should enjoy it for itself.  Yes, the big prize is pretty much won, but the little ones are still to be won.  The next two courses are very good ones and provide lots of drama, according to Blount.  So are you going to tune in to see?  As a sidebar, Johnson is going to win his third Sprint Cup in a row in the next few weeks; that’s nothing to sneeze at. NASCAR fans should rejoice, though I can understand why it would be nice to see someone else win for once.

The end of the race yesterday at Talladega was a very exciting one.  Regan Smith was in the last lap and dropped down below the yellow line to get into better position.  NASCAR noticed this and took immediate action to make sure the race was fair, all the way to the end. In the end, Joe Nemechek came in first   Now, four of the strongest drivers are right in the hunt to win it all, Johnson, Burton, Biffle and Edwards are all within 100 points of each other.  The year’s competition is still anyone’s!  There were also a record number of lead changes during this race, 26.  That is a new Talladega record for you! What a great race!

The main story on NASCAR.com today draws attention to Greg Biffle in this year’s Sprint Cup Series.  Yes, Jimmie Johnson is ahead; yes, he’s ahead by 149 points.  This means, that in order to win, Greg Biffle may need to beat Johnson by as many as 39 positions this Sunday in Atlanta.  This doesn’t sound so bad.  NASCAR races have many drivers, so 39 positions isn’t all that bad.  However, keep in mind that the last time Johnson was defeated by 39 slots was in Charlotte earlier this year, when his motor went kaputt.  These are the chances for Greg Biffle.  Perhaps they aren’t that great, but it’s still a possibility; with NASCAR races, you never quite know what’s going to happen, and it’s certainly fun to find out.  Tune in for the Pep Boys Auto 500 on Sunday afternoon to see the action!

After the track cleared this past weekend and Jimmie Johnson finished his first-place celebration, the standings are closer than they’ve ever been this season. The top five racers (Johnson, Greg Biffle, Jeff Burton, Carl Edwards, and Clint Bowyer) are all within 250 points of each other…something that can rapidly turn around within a couple races. Then again, there’s only a couple of races left in the season. That may be all that’s needed for one of these guys to make their move. Learn more about the Sprint Cup Series by clicking here.

The qualifying race times for the TUMS QuikPak 500 were washed out by some torrential rains. The starting positions will now be accredited based on the points of the individual drivers. The top five starting positions belong to Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Burton, Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards, and Clint Boyle respectively. Though the rains may have washed out the qualifying rounds, fans can expect to be treated a great day of NASCAR racing. Keep yourself completely posted on the race and click here.

Riding the momentum of a victory that launched him into second place last Saturday night, Jeff Burton feels extremely at ease in his role as the hunter. Instead of having to lead and fend off all other racers, Burton would rather attack than defend. Now, only 69 points away from Johnson’s first place lead, Burton’s ready to hit the Martinsville Speedway for the TUMS QuikPak 500 and creep in towards first. Stay abreast of all the action and visit NASCAR.com.

Looks like Talladega Superspeedway can add another crash to its resume. With only 13 laps to go, a crash occurred when Carl Edwards’ car nudged Greg Biffle’s car. A tap at such top speeds caused a chain reaction in the race. Including Edwards and Biffle’s cars, 12 cars were wreck at Talladega Superspeedway. Edwards came off as the source of the accident and has since then apologized for this accident causing move. Edwards tried to take the lead, but ended up causing chaos.

NASCAR drivers are prepping for Talladega Superpeedway. No other racetrack in NASCAR gives drivers more butterflies than the dreaded Talladega Superpeedway. Talladega racetrack is 2.2 miles of bumper-to-bumper adrenaline pumping action not only for the drivers but also for the fans. Spins and crashes plague this Talladega Superpeedway. One slip up at the front and the whole race can be ruined. That is why Talladega Superpeedway can either make or break a driver’s season.
